About one woman’s hike on the Pacific Crest Trail, this book came to my attention because it’s actually popular. Most trail books are not bestsellers so I was intrigued. I found it to be more about the author’s life than her hike. The only information I really gleaned from it related to hiking is more of a “what not to do” list, although something like starting a hike with a pack weight you cannot even lift is an obvious tip and one that I don’t particularly need. I always find it interesting when people who have little to no backpacking experience, or who know nothing about a trail, decide to thru-hike. Without that knowledge, what is the instigating factor for them? The book was well written and hard to put down, but more in a life memoir way than a hiking memoir way.
