Project Wild Thing is a documentary about how children have become disconnected from nature, how that is a problem, and what to do about it. Filmmaker David Bond took on the job of Marketing Director of Nature because he was worried about how much time his small children spent in front of screens and how little time they spent outside. He consulted scientists, naturalists, brand specialists, and marketing firms in his quest to start a campaign to get kids outdoors more. He even got sponsored by a large enough company to be able to afford billboards in prime locations in London for a very short amount of time. With help from all of these people, he was able to come up with a “brand” for Nature so that kids and parents would pay attention.
I actually backed this film as part of a Kickstarter campaign a year ago and it came out while I was hiking. I just finally got a chance to watch it and I’m glad I did. It doesn’t present as compelling a case as Richard Louv but it’s engaging just the same. I recommend watching.
