High Point

We went through High Point State Park today, which was nice in several ways. First, all thru hikers signing in at the office got a free cold soda. Then, there was a short side trail to a lake with a beach for swimming, concessions, and free hot showers. We spent a lot of time there.

We finally got going in order to make it to Unionville for the night, where we hung out at the Wit’s End Tavern until closing and then camped for free in the park.

The trail had a few interesting things today too. I had to be escorted by a construction worker for about sixty feet of it because it was a “high pressure testing area” near a pipeline. We also went through a lot of marshy areas with boardwalks at the end of the day. 14.3 miles today.

Joe & I celebrated our one of our finished sections at Wit’s End also last year. We’ll be starting at High Point and hiking south on Labor Day weekend.
