After yesterday’s warm, sunny bike ride, today felt more like real autumn – raining and chilly. We did get a short break in the rain this afternoon though, so we zipped out to Niquette Bay State Park for a 3-mile loop hike. There were no other vehicles in the parking lot so we had the place to ourselves.
We started down the Allen Trail, which was very flat and led us down to the beach. We watched a bald eagle fly around there for a while before heading up the wooden steps to the Beach Bypass Trail.
From there, we skipped Cedar Point, and instead hopped on the Muhley Trail over to Island View. Although lots of leaves were already down, we did still have some good colors in the trees.
After checking out the little loop to the view, we continued on the Muhley Trail to the Burns Trail and followed that back to the parking lot.
There was a little elevation change once we were off the first trail, but still not much – only 350′ in the 3 miles.
Then it started raining again as soon as we got home. Perfect timing!
