Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks

The sky was clear and it was sunny this morning so we stayed in camp to dry everything out from yesterday’s storms. I finally got going about 8:30 and entered Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks first thing. They’re supposed to have some of the most beautiful miles of the trail.

It definitely feels like I’m in the High Sierra now. Beautiful meadows and water everywhere, and amazing views. I got down to Rock Creek for second breakfast to find some friends I hadn’t seen in a couple of days fishing and having a small fire. We discussed different options for summiting Mount Whitney tomorrow so I ended up staying quite a while.

We decided to all stay at the Crabtree ranger station so there weren’t too many more miles left in the day and I took my time. When I got to Crabtree Meadow, there were plenty of deer and marmots hanging out, and they didn’t seem to mind us at all.

I then hopped on the side trail to follow Whitney Creek up to the ranger station. 13.7 miles total. There’s a big meadow here too for everyone to camp in. We got some intel from people who had already gone up Whitney and decided to set our alarms for midnight to try and make it up for sunrise.

I ate dinner and prepared for tomorrow and now need to try to sleep a few hours.
