Sonora Pass

I started singing a song about mosquitoes last night and this morning I finished the lyrics. It’s a take on Cee Lo Green’s “F*ck You.” (Apologies to Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Theresa, and any potential future employers for the level of profanity. I did not write the original song! But it is appropriate for mosquitoes!)

Fuck You (Ode to Mosquitoes)
Music by Cee Lo Green, Lyrics by Siren

I see you flying round me looking for some skin
And I’m like, fuck you
I cover everything up but you still get in
And I’m like, fuck you
Oh when I hear your buzzing, you got me rushing
Now ain’t that some shit (ain’t that some shit)
You got me swatting and flailing and hopping around
And I’m like, fuck you

Now I’ve tried all the repellants
The herbal sprays and the deet
Even the ninety eight percent
But you don’t really miss a beat

I pity the fool that can’t escape from you
(Oh shit it’s a bloodsucker
Better run from that fucker)
Ooh I got some news for you
I’m gonna squish your tiny ass

I see you flying round me looking for some skin
And I’m like, fuck you
I cover everything up but you still get in
And I’m like, fuck you
Oh when I hear your buzzing, you got me rushing
Now ain’t that some shit (ain’t that some shit)
You got me swatting and flailing and hopping around
And I’m like, fuck you

Now my legs are covered in bug bites
You’ve got me scratching till they bleed
I must eat too much candy
Cause you just think I’m so damn sweet

I pity the fool that can’t escape from you
(Oh shit it’s a bloodsucker
Better run from that fucker)
Ooh I got some news for you
I’m gonna squish your tiny ass

I see you flying round me looking for some skin
And I’m like, fuck you
I cover everything up but you still get in
And I’m like, fuck you
Oh when I hear your buzzing, you got me rushing
Now ain’t that some shit (ain’t that some shit)
You got me swatting and flailing and hopping around
And I’m like, fuck you

Now buggy, buggy, buggy, why you wanna, wanna bite me so bad
(So bad, so bad, so bad)
Cause any time you come near, don’t you know that you’re just driving me mad
(Me mad, me mad, me mad)

Why, why, why, buggy
I hate you, I so hate you

I see you flying round me looking for some skin
And I’m like, fuck you
I cover everything up but you still get in
And I’m like, fuck you
Oh when I hear your buzzing, you got me rushing
Now ain’t that some shit (ain’t that some shit)
You got me swatting and flailing and hopping around
And I’m like, fuck you

So that’s been stuck in my head all day.

We had a really gorgeous, exposed ridge walk for miles today. There were such great views the whole time. The wind was whipping so it made walking through the loose gravel a little more difficult, but fun. I could see storms all around in the distance but I only ever got rained on a little bit.

I had some cell signal on part of the ridge so I was messing around with my phone and got slower. As I got closer to the road at Sonora Pass, the sky turned really dark, so I put my phone away and started running. I was hoping my friends would already have a ride waiting at the road and I’d just hop in right before it started raining.

They did not have a ride waiting, but the rain never started either. It took us only a couple of minutes to get a ride once I was there. A very nice couple out fishing with their son-in-law picked us up in a big truck and took us down to Kennedy Meadows North, a resort and pack station.

They have some bunkrooms for hikers so we grabbed beds, started laundry, got dinner at the restaurant, resupplied at the general store, and got showers. There was supposed to be wifi, but they don’t let hikers use it any more because it was interfering with running their business. Like the Kennedy Meadows General Store south of the Sierra, this is another place run on generators and satellite.

16.6 miles today.
