It was just a couple of miles to the midpoint this morning, and only 11 miles to town, so we got a leisurely start. Once we reached the midpoint marker, we stopped for a celebration and photo shoot. 1325 miles done from Mexico, and 1325 miles to go to Canada!
It was only a couple of hours more to the road, and I hopped right in a truck that had already pulled over for some other hikers. Troy gave us a quick tour of town and then dropped us off at the Pine Shack Frosty, where there are delicious burgers and jumbo milkshakes. I got orange creamsicle.
Then it was over to the motel Mac had already reserved, showers, resupply, and dinner. Stretch and The Animal and I went to a tavern, and our waitress, Jessie, told us which local bar to go to for our halfway celebration. She said drinks were reasonably priced and stiff, and music and dancing were encouraged. Perfect!
We stopped by the motel again to collect more hikers and started for the bar. Part of the way there, a car pulled over, and it was Jessie! She gave us a ride the rest of the way since she was also going there. All of the locals were friendly, we had music and pool, and the Long Islands were delicious. However, they were so strong that the bartender put a two drink max on them. It was a great halfway celebration!
